Rehabilitation Medicine
Starting from Sungai buloh Rehabilitation Centre for Leprosy in 1930s, now all major public hospitals and university hospitals in Malaysia have rehabilitation services.
Rehabilitation Medicine assist patients with chronic conditions to achieve maximum level of recovery, achieve optimum functional recovery and reintegration into the society. It is a continuum of medical care after acute treatment.
We fully embrace principle of holistic care in line with biopsychosocial approach and international classification of functions, disability and health (ICF) advocated by World Health Organization.
Type Of Rehabilation Centre
There are few types of rehabilation centers in Malaysia.
Public Hospitals
All major state hospitals in Malaysia have Rehabilitation Medicine Services. These are facilities by Ministry of Health, Malaysia
University Hospitals
Major Public University Hospitals also have Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, namely PPUM, PPUKM, UITM and HUSM
Tertiary Referral Center
Hospital Rehabilitasi Cheras is Malaysia’s main tertiary referral center for Rehabilitation Medicine
Private Rehabilitation Centers
These rehabiliation centres are mainly located in Klang Valley. They consist of private hospitals such as Subang Jaya Medical Center, Gleaneagle KL, Tawakkal KL, Park City Medical Center etc. Smaller dedicated rehabilitation centres are like WQ Park.
Vocational Rehabilitation Center
Social Security Organization (SOCSO) Rehabilitation Centre in Malacca is a purpose built dedicated center for Return to Work program for their members.
